The Bima people of East Sumbawa deeply embrace values of unity and resilience, grounded in a balance of tradition and growth. Central to Bima culture is the philosophy of “Maja Labo Dahu” — a way of life that emphasizes personal integrity, social harmony, and respect within the community. This spirit of connectedness and shared purpose inspired the collection “Bara,” -meaning “root” symbolically- as it channels the essence of roots interwoven with culture and strength, representing heritage that sustains through challenges.
BARA draws on rituals like Petakapanca, a traditional ceremony invoking protection and blessings, and Ranca Dolu, a custom of forgiveness and reconciliation, highlighting the healing and grounding presence of heritage. Through its designs, BARA expresses this resilience and community spirit, integrating loose-fitting pieces with asymmetrical cuts and textured layers reminiscent of Bima’s everyday life and symbolic rituals. Colors echo the natural landscape and Bima’s vibrant tones, while soft, flowy yet durable fabrics reflect both strength and adaptability. The collection combines classic yet organic silhouettes with delicate, handcrafted details, embodying the deep roots of Bima’s legacy in a contemporary form.
